Looking for a Meaning in Life when It Seems There Isn’t

Media Esser, RN, NNP-BC Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, CHWQuestion: Why do we waste time looking for objective or meaning in life? Why don’t we just live it? And stop wasting our lives searching for a meaning which we will never be able to prove? I am a single mom of 3 and I was so obsessed with finding meaning in my life. So I tried applying for scholarships for working moms. I got 2 jobs. And I started dating out with different guys. Then I still felt that there was no meaning to everythign I did. So I stopped searching for it and just enjoyed lief as it comes.

Answer: I think we all need to search for a meaning for ourselves. Not all of us have the same purpose, not every purpose will fulfill all of us. If we have a meaning, then everything that we do, how we live, is that much better, because it happens with a sense of accomplishment.

Everything you encounter in life has meaning. Just look around, open your mind and heart, and finding meaning is ridiculously easy. Just living life, as you claim, makes sense. Do not overload your senses and your mind with useless things. Keep it simple. Spend some time looking for meaning, and things will be better.

Many times our experiences will change our future goals. If you feel you are called to work in a service industry then by all means pursue that dream. I am going to school to be a neonatal nurse. Perhaps that would be a good option for you. There are tons of college scholarships for women that you can actually apply for. You also may want to consider counseling to help you. There is a season for everything. Season of gain, season of loss. But to everything under sun, there is a purpose. We may not know why but we can trust our Heavenly Father. He knows such pain more acute than anyone of us.
