How to Calculate the Distance from Steps Recorded with Pedometers

Walking and running are two easy exercises that will keep you active and protected from a number of diseases. To improve with your walking routine, nothing can be more helpful than using Pedometers. This is a small and cheap device that can keep record of your daily steps taken. It is usually suggested that an able adult individual should take ten thousand steps everyday to be in good shape. Some pedometers count the distance traveled along with measuring steps. However, you can manually calculate the distance from the step-count if you know your stride-length. Stride length is the distance you cover with every step. It is not any specific measurement. The length of your stride depends on the length of your legs and the speed of your movement. Usually, an adult takes 1900 to 2600 steps to walk one mile. But if you move faster, stride length tends to be longer. You can manually measure your stride length for walking and running separately. Then it is pretty easy to calculate the distance you traveled from that measurement and number of steps recorded in the device.
