Best Retirement Real Estate Cities

Show me how to get there. It’s hard to pinpoint the best retirement real estate because everyone has their own ideas about what is fun and what is essential in a retirement community. However, US News & World Report looked at budget amenities that might appeal to retirees on a fixed income (for instance, the best place for water views on a budget, affordable housing, or affordable mountain towns). They also looked at the best places with year-round weather and real estate offering the best cultural opportunities to explore. Friendly college towns and places with a high number of 55+ singles also made their list. If you are like me and live in the mid-west, you won’t see a lot of nearby cities like Louisville real estate on this list!

According to the paper, the 10 Best Places To Find Retirement Real Estate In 2012 are:

ARIZONA (Flagstaff): Most pleasant year-round weather CALIFORNIA (Walnut Creek): Greenest place to retire FLORIDA (Port Charlotte): Best place for affordable real estate MASSACHUSETTS (Pittsfield): Best place for single retirees MICHIGAN (Traverse City): Best water views on a budget NEBRASKA (Lincoln): Best place to launch a second career NEW YORK (Ithaca): Friendliest college town for retirees NEW MEXICO (Santa Fe): Best place for recreation and culture NORTH CAROLINA (Boone): Most affordable mountain town PENNSYLVANIA (Pittsburgh): Best mix of affordability and amenities

Many retirees who have paid off the mortgage on their primary real estate find that investing and renting out properties was a great way to fill their coffers for the retirement lifestyle. Even though the market has “collapsed,” it doesn’t so much affect people who aren’t trying to make a quick sale or house flip. If you’re in it for the long haul, real estate is still a worthy investment, MoneyRates.com personal finance expert Richard Barringtontold Fox News. Once again, as a Louisville homes specialist, it sure would have been nice to see my favorite city on that list!
